May 12, 2010
Today I read the poem, "First Lesson", by Philip Booth. I underlined lines which helped me identify the symbol. I then moved on to James Hurst's, "The Scarlet Ibis", in which I had to repeat the process to identify the symbol.

Today I began to work on my Scarlet ibis essay. Describing symbolism and how it is used throughout the story.

In class, I continued to work on my scarlet ibis essay; Identifying where the symbolism takes place, and the relation between the bird and Doodle.

We started a new assignment, titled "Irony". I began by defining irony, explaining it's three types, and discussing how it's used in my daily life.

Today, I read Edwin Arlington Robinson's, "Richard Cory", and used it to further explain irony in my essay. I first deconstructed the poem, and gave examples.

As another example of irony in poems, I chose to read Guy de Maussapant's, "The Necklace". It's ironic twist served as a good example of situational irony.

Continuation of my irony essay; Today I read Gardiner Harris', "The House That Slaves Built", and used it as another example of irony in literature. "The House That Slaves Built" is an article speaking of the African American's history with the white house, and it's new inhabitants, and African American family.

Today I corrected a few minor errors in my irony essay, and included quotes from the necklace to support my statements.

I began my satire essay; defined satire, read some documents, and read Taylor Mali's, "The impotence of proofreading" I then explained the satire in the essay, with a number of examples. June 7, 2010
Today i continued my satire essay, and read an article on the Onion on the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. I deconstructed the article and provided quotes to prove the satire used.
